Homes of multiple occupancy
Homes of multiple occupancy
Houses (and Flats) in Multiple Occupation HMO
At its simplest a House in Multiple Occupation is a dwelling that is occupied by three or more people in two or more households (households essentially means a family group) and two or more households share at least one basic amenity (kitchen, bathroom, toilet).
Some buildings that are converted into self-contained flats can also be HMOs. This is defined in section 257 of the Housing Act 2004.
