Annual governance statement

The annual governance statement is a statutory document which explains the processes and procedures in place to enable the council to carry out its functions effectively.

The statement is produced following a review of the council's governance arrangements and includes an action plan to address any significant governance issues identified.

Until 2009/10 we were required to include the annual governance statement with the statement of accounts and it was therefore published as part of that document. From 2010/11 the annual governance statement does not have to be included within the statement of accounts.

The annual governance statement 2010/11 was approved by the audit and governance committee on 27 September 2011.
