Adult learning courses

Southwark Council adult learning service

Enrol now or just come along for Southwark adult learning spring courses starting in January 2012.  All the Family Learning course on pages 22 and 23 of the guide are free.

(Note: With reference to the spring courses guide download above, the time of course Help your child with English FL057 should read 10.30 to 12.30 and the final course Digital photography and film making FL039 has been left off completely - so call 020 7358 2100 for more information.)

We offer part time courses taught by experienced staff, at times that are convenient to you. We have daytime, twilight and evening provision, and classes on selected Saturdays.

There are courses for all ages, including opportunites for you and your children (or grandchildren) to learn something together.

Come along to the Thomas Calton Centre and sign up. Call 020 7358 2100 for more information on courses. Proof of identity is required when you enrol (see page 25 of the guide).

Enrolment times are (although for any of the courses initially you can just come along at the set course time):

  • Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm 
  • Mondays and Wednesday evenings 6pm to 8pm (term times)

Fees

Fees for each course are shown in the course listings, course fees, exam fees and materials fees are due on enrolment.

The standard fee for new learners not receiving means tested benefits is £3.70 per hour, concessionary fee is £1.55 per hour and the cost recovery fee for learners enrolling on second and subsequent courses is £5.50 per hour.

Learners are not charged for skills for life and family learning classes. All students, except skills for life and family learning classes, pay an annual non-refundable registration fee of £5. (see page 5)

Concessionary fees

People receiving the following benefits are eligible for a concessionary rate:

  • Jobseekers allowance
  • Income support
  • Housing benefit
  • Council tax benefit
  • Working tax credit, along with the childcare element
  • Pension credit
  • Unwaged dependent on one of the above
