Winter weather

During the winter months the weather can be unpredictable, with sudden cold spells and snowfall.

Keeping warm in winter

Keeping warm over the winter months can help prevent colds, flu and other health problems. Our guide to keeping warm in winter has useful advice and links.

Winter gritting

In adverse weather conditions the council provides a winter maintenance service to help keep traffic moving and to minimise delays and accidents.

This includes salt gritting in advance of ice or snow, pavement clearing and the provision of salt or grit bins.

Schools

Every effort will be made to keep schools open during periods of heavy snowfall.

Parents and guardians are asked to get in touch directly with their children's schools if they believe wintry weather may cause disruption.
