Come and explore the Create and Play zone
Alongside the amazing bandstand stage we have our inspiring programme ‘Create and Play’ for young people and families. This year we will be working alongside a variety of talented artists, performers and designers many who are Southwark-based, providing hands-on creative sessions, storytelling, dance and performing arts workshops and a foraging adventure across Southwark Park.
Workshops are all free and designed to encourage creativity and movement, and develop skills. There’s no need to book some workshops are drop-in throughout the day, others have specific start times. Please check the schedule below or speak to a volunteer on the day for details.
Nest box for Birdy Birds: Mask Time with Café Gallery Projects CGP London
Come along and enjoy a free drop-in art workshop led by artist Alexa Lowe, open to all ages and inspired by the nest box commission in Southwark Park by Alec Finlay. You will make your own bird masks based on the birds that inhabit the park and join a bird parade in your creations to some of the nest boxes. Drop in to the workshop any time during the day. The parade is scheduled to depart from the Create & Play area at 3pm.
Alexa Lowe is an artist interested in the process of mark making with a range of materials and methods and works with different community groups to encourage and further develop creative expression for all.
Crafty Beasts Making Workshops with Time & Talents
Learn some crafting and arty stuff together with our Time & Talents’ elders in a cheery intergenerational group, bringing together ages 7 to 107. A great way to explore new arts and crafts and learn from our elders. Drop-in throughout the day.
Totally Wild Foraging Adventure
Join Gavin Ireland for a family-friendly foraging adventure across Southwark Park. Discover the wild, edible delicacies to be found growing on your doorstep. Short foraging walks lasting approximately 20 to 30 minutes will run throughout the day. Find Gavin in the Create & Play area at the times scheduled below:

Make Theatre with London Bubble Theatre
Turn yourself into a story gatherer, a story teller, a character creator or a history maker in the beautiful Bubble Yurt! We will be running three groups of activities and you can choose to attend one or all based on your interest. Drop in throughout the day from 12pm to 4pm.
Charting the Mayflower - Participate in a friendly intergenerational theatre making activity and work with history enthusiasts and theatre artists. Learn how you can contribute to the project or simply volunteer occasionally.
Story Bubbles - Offer a story to one of our story gatherers and then collectively enact it around a story square.
I don’t do drama - You think drama is not for you? Come build a character instead. Our Young Theatre Makers will lead an interactive session for people of all ages, and begin it with a pair of trainers.
