Dulwich Helpline
Dulwich Helpline began in 1993, when local people recognised a need for friendship and practical support for isolated older people in their area. From these beginnings, when the organisation was run solely by volunteers, we have grown and developed in response to the considerable needs of the local community. Now there is a range of friendly support services, still provided mainly by volunteers, but managed by a small team of paid staff. Our referrals come from older people themselves, their family and friends, from GP's and Health Workers, and from Social Services. Our services include: befriending: face-to-face, on the telephone, and in small friendship groups* a wide range of small friendly activity groups, including reminiscence, poetry, music, exercise etc* hospital visiting* help with shopping, gardening, odd jobs or transport If you are aged 55 plus, are feeling a bit lonely or isolated, and live in south Southwark, please contact us and we would be pleased to tell you more. We are always seeking to recruiting new volunteers, both male and female, and of all ages and backgrounds. If you have from as little as one hour per fortnight to spare
