What is air pollution and why is it important

The quality of the air you breathe each day can affect you. Everyone reacts differently to air pollution. Children, the elderly and those with heart or lung disease, like asthma, have the most health problems from air pollution. But even if you’re healthy, you can still be affected by poor air quality if you exercise or work outdoors.

Air pollution also damages our environment, harming eco systems and even corroding the stonework and bricks of buildings.

You can help to reduce the amount of air pollution by reducing your use of energy in your home and how often you use your car, motorbike or scooter on the road.
