Planning applications - listed buildings
Service outline
There are approximately 3,000 listed buildings in Southwark. A listed building can be a building, object or structure that is of national, historical or architectural interest. All such structures are included on a list drawn up by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.
Works to the interior or exterior of a listed building must be authorised through granting listed building consent. It is a criminal offence to carry out works to a listed building without prior listed building consent.
The design and conservation team hold a full copy of the list for Southwark. English Heritage also compiles the
register of buildings at risk.
