StreetLeader Scheme
 The StreetLeader schemes are one of a number of our initiatives that aim to make our neighbourhoods cleaner and safer.
The environmental scheme set up in 2003 was joined by the housing scheme set up for tenants and residents of Southwark Council housing. Both operate as a partnership between more than 500 local residents and a team of Southwark Council area engagement staff.
What do StreetLeaders do?
StreetLeaders volunteer to keep an eye on the streets they pass through whilst going about their day to day lives. Housing StreetLeaders also keep an eye on the estates or the street housing they live in.
They make a commitment to report any envirocrimes and housing envirocrimes such as dog mess, graffiti, lifts and abandoned vehicles.

Anyone can become a StreetLeader and we're looking for more volunteers.
Grot spots spotted
Southwark's StreetLeaders report around 150 problems to us every month. These include abandoned vehicles, potholes, dumped rubbish, dog mess, graffiti, illegal street trading and broken street lights.
40 StreetLeaders have volunteered to look after their local recycling site. They tell us when the bins are full, if they have been damaged or if rubbish has been dumped by them. StreetLeaders are helping us to react to any problems and keep Southwark's recycling sites clean.
StreetLeaders can make a big difference to their local area. The wall pictured below is taken in Nunhead and the graffiti was spotted by one of our StreetLeaders. Southwark's graffiti team swung into action and cleaned the wall. It now looks a lot better (below right).
