Current Penalty Charges

To make sure penalty charges are the same across London, they are set by London Councils, not by Southwark Council. For more information please visit The following link opens in a new windowLondon Councils website.

Penalty charges for parking tickets issued in Southwark

There are two bands for penalty charge notices in Southwark

  • Band A, all roads north of Dulwich Common A205, £80 or £120 depending on the contravention
  • Band B, all roads south of Dulwich Common A205, £60 or £100 depending on the contravention

Penalty charges

From July 1 2007, both band A and band B PCNs (Penalty Charge Notices) changed so that parking contraventions that are considered to be more serious will attract a higher charge, and parking contraventions that are considered to be less serious will attract a lower charge

  • The PCN charges for more serious contraventions will be £120 band A and £100 band B
  • The PCN charges for less serious contraventions will be £80 band A and £60 band B

Discounts

Legislation provides a 50 per cent discount if payment is made within 14 days. If the PCN was issued for a parking contravention using a CCTV camera the 50 per cent discount period is extended to 21 days.

Costs

  • If the charge is unpaid after 28 days, a 'notice to owner' is sent to the registered keeper of the vehicle and it must be paid in full
  • If the charge is unpaid, it increases by 50 per cent once you have received your charge certificate
  • If the charge is subsequently registered as a debt, a £5 court fee is also payable
  • If bailiffs are instructed to recover the debt, bailiff charges are also payable

For example in band A

  • The full penalty charge notice is £120
  • If you pay within 14 days the amount payable is £60
  • If it is not paid within 28 days the charge increases to £180 when a charge certificate is issued
  • If the charge of £180 is not paid, it is registered as a debt and increases to £185
