Research reportsThe policies and proposals set out in the Southwark Plan (UDP) 2007 are supported by a number of research reports and strategies that have been undertaken by or on behalf of the council.
Strategic Flood Risk Assessment
A strategic flood risk assessment (SFRA) has been prepared to ensure that flood risk is taken into account and minimised in all new developments. The SFRA sets out the level of flood risk in different areas of the borough. This will help plan for new developments and assist in the determination of planning applications.

Housing capacity study
The study was prepared to assess housing provision within the borough, including affordable housing. The study includes
Details of housing completions between 1997 and 2003 from all sources (including non self-contained housing and bringing empty homes back into use)
An assessment of the potential future supply of housing from designated sites based on past trends for windfall sites (sites that are not identified in the Southwark Plan)
An assessment of affordable housing delivery and the potential impact of changes to affordable housing policy

Southwark affordable housing valuations research
The research looks into the valuation of different sites within Southwark and the impact affordable housing provision has on these valuations.
Southwark density survey
The survey compares the different residential density found in the borough.
Retail study report
Roger Tym & Partners were instructed by the London Borough of Southwark to prepare a borough-wide retail capacity study in response to the advice set out in PPG 6 ‘Town Centres and Retail Developments’ and to inform the Southwark Unitary Development Plan. In addition the London Plan requires boroughs to carry out retail need assessments as part of the UDP process. This study is intended to fulfil this requirement.
