National Planning Application Requirements General information
Different types of application and scale of development proposed will require different levels of information to be submitted to the council before it can validate and consider the application.
The minimum statutory requirements for submitting an application (the national list) are set out in the Town and Country Planning (General Development procedure - Amendment) (England) Order 2008 [the GDPO].
This states that an application should
- be made in writing (paper or electronic application) to the local planning authority on a form published by the Secretary of State
- include the particulars specified in the form and be accompanied by a plan which identifies the land to which it relates
- any other plans, drawings or information necessary to describe the development must be drawn to an identified scale and, in the case of plans, show the direction north
- be accompanied by any certificate or documents required by the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 or the GDPO
- include any fee to be paid in respect of the application where lodging a cheque or making an electronic payment for the correct fee is taken as payment
- be accompanied by a design and access statement where required
Paper applications should include three copies of the form plus the original. For applications submitted electronically no copies are required.
