Complying with Building RegulationsAnyone considering carrying out building works must ensure that their work complies with the London Building Acts (Amendment) Act 1939, the Building Act 1984 and the Building Regulations.

What is building control consent?
Building control consent provides building owners or developers with an independent assessment that shows their building work meets the regulations.
Building control consent is required for domestic works such as extensions, loft conversions and internal alterations. Major residential, commercial and industrial developments also require building control consent.
What is the difference between building control and planning applications?
The planning applications team determines planning applications through ensuring proposed new developments support the council’s community strategy, the Emerging Southwark Plan, and national and regional planning policies.
The building control team are responsible for making sure all work involving buildings meet the requirements of the building regulations.
Although the two services are interlinked you will need to discuss your proposal with both sections at the same time to avoid any occurring.
