Planning and Building ControlPlanning permission is different from building control consent. Even if you do not need planning permission, you may still need building control consent. In some instances, you may need both.
Planning control
Planning control, or development control as it is more generally known, is part of the planning service process and is an essential part of maintaining the history and managing the future of Southwark.
The development control service determines planning applications to ensure that proposed new developments support the council's community strategy, the council's Unitary Development Plan and national and regional planning policies.
The development control service also provides advice on the quality of design and negotiates planning agreements to deliver affordable housing and, where appropriate, other benefits to mitigate the impact of new developments on the environment and local community.
