JSL Star Report Junior StreetLeaders at Crampton Primary School get tough on illegally parked motorbikes
Joshua and Sohaila, two of our star junior reporters at Crampton Primary School tell the story.
We were having a problem with motorbikes chained to the railings outside our school fire exit. We reported this to Dave Taylor (Southwark's StreetLeader manager) during one of our environment audits. He suggested that we put a letter on the bikes requesting that the bike owners remove them from our fire exit. They did not take any notice of our request.
We had to have another think of what to do. The Junior StreetLeaders got together and thought the next move was to put up a sign. We put together the wording and Tony Stefano from Southwark's parking unit gave it the OK. The sign went up but the motorbike owners ignored it. After three weeks we had no other choice but to follow through with the threat that was given. We had to have the motorbikes removed.
A team of vehicle removal men called to Crampton Primary School to remove the motorbikes from our fire exit. Following the removal, someone from Southwark arrived to cut away the raillings (which were not needed) to avoid motorbikes being chained there again.
We have never heard from the owners of the motorbikes and we have not had any more motorbike disturbances since that incident.
