Grants for Insulation and Heating There are many grants available to help you pay for energy improvements to your house. There are schemes available for both tenants and landlords.

Cut price home insulation
The Mayor of London offers households cut price insulation for cavity walls (from £150) and lofts (from £49). Households on benefits and the over 70's may be entitled to free insulation.

The Southwark Warmer Homes scheme offers advice to all Southwark residents and directs those that are eligible for assistance through Coldbusters and Warm Front.
Coldbusters: A regional grant scheme that helps towards energy efficiency measures such as cavity wall insulation or a new boiler. The grant is available to privately rented or owned households on income related benefits.
Warm Front: A government funded scheme which provides grants for energy efficiency improvements for private homeowners and tenants on income related benefits. Grants are available for up to £2,700 per household, £4,000 if oil central heating is required.

Private Landlord Energy Award Scheme (PLEASE)
Council grants are available to landlords in Southwark to help with the cost of energy saving measures. PLEASE grants are available as a contribution towards the total cost of work and include a home survey to identify works needed. An interest free loan can be provided to help cover the remaining cost. For more information call 020 7525 2379.

Landlord's Energy Saving Allowance (LESA) 
Landlords who pay Income Tax and let residential property to tenants can also apply for the Landlord's Energy Saving Allowance (LESA). A deduction of up to £1,500.00 for Income Tax purposes is applicable for each building when the following measures are installed:
- Cavity wall insulation
- Loft insulation
- Solid wall insulation
- Floor insulation
If you've carried out these works recently, you can still make a claim (cavity wall and lofts from April 6 2004 onwards; solid walls from April 7 2007 onwards).

Reflective radiator panels
For council tenants, reflective radiator panels can be provided and installed for free. The panels reflect heat back into your room which would otherwise be lost through the walls and can save 10 per cent on your fuel bills.
