Energy Efficiency in Southwark Energy and climate change
Climate change is one of the most serious challenges facing humanity. The main cause of climate change is the rise in levels of CO2 in our atmosphere. CO2 is produced whenever we burn fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas) – whether this is to heat our homes, run our cars or generate electricity in power stations.
The council has set itself a target to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the borough by 80 per cent of current levels by 2050.
These following pages will tell you what we are doing towards achieving that target and give you help and advice to improve energy efficiency yourself.
