Batteries
Residents can now take their used household batteries such as standard, rechargeable, mobile phone and laptop batteries to fourteen different locations around the borough, where they can be deposited into a 'collection tube' for recycling.
Battery collection points are located at all libraries in Southwark, as well as Peckham Town Hall and reception at Manor Place Depot's offices. Batteries can also still be taken to the household waste reuse and recycling centre at Manor Place Depot.
Please note that car batteries are only accepted at the household waste reuse and recycling centre at Manor Place Depot.
Bikes
The Burgess Park cycle track accepts second hand, unwanted bikes for refurbishment and recycling. It is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm (closed on Sundays) and located opposite the junction of Portland Street and Albany Road. Call 020 7582 9191 for more information.
Bulky waste
Southwark offers a free collection service to residents. Contact us on 020 7525 2000 or email environment@southwark.gov.uk. Items are brought back to Manor Place Depot and reused or recycled where possible.
If you think someone else might be able to use your item, advertise it for free on the Swapxchange Southwark. The fun, free way to recycle!
Cartons
Residents can take their cartons/TetraPaks to Southwark's Household Waste Reuse and Recycling Centre, off Walworth Road. Cartons are also collected at Sainsbury's on Dog Kennel Hill, where there is a new recycling site, including a recycling bin for cartons. Alternatively, cartons can be posted to Somerset, where they are bulked up, and will then be sent for recycling. The address to send cartons to (postage is required) is:

Christmas trees
Every January, we provide a free Christmas tree recycling service.
Households on our garden waste collection scheme can have their trees collected by putting them out on their garden waste collection day. Households who are not part of the garden waste recycling scheme can take their trees to one of several designated areas. We will also offer an assisted collection service for elderly or disabled residents; just contact us on 020 7525 2000 from the beginning of January to arrange for a collection.
All the trees we collect will be reprocessed to make mulch that will help bring shrub and flowerbeds back to life in the spring.

Energy saving lightbulbs
These can be recycled with fluorescent tubes at Southwark's household waste reuse and recycling centre at Manor Place Depot. Recycling is the best and safest way of dealing with old energy-saving lightbulbs, because of the small amounts of mercury that they contain.
Reduce, reuse, recycle
Don't forget that before reusing or recycling, it is best to reduce the amount of waste we produce in the first place. Visit our waste minimisation pages for some great ideas.
