Public Consultation


Consultation is an important part of the Southwark schools for the future programme.

On this page, we list the consultation we have undertaken or are about to undertake. 
The types of consultation are

  • Outline planning consultation about the building work
  • Full planning consultation about the detailed building designs and work
  • Statutory consultation on changes to schools

Statutory consultation

For statutory consultation we sent letters to

  • All education stakeholders
  • Parents/carers of pupils at all schools directly affected
  • Staff and governors at all schools directly affected
  • Headteachers and chairs of governors of all Southwark schools
  • Southwark Councillors
  • Local MPs
  • Diocesan authorities
  • Trade unions
  • Members of Young Southwark

We also held meetings at the schools for staff and parents/carers, which were advertised in the Southwark News and South London Press.

The following is a summary of the statutory changes that we consulted on for each school.

Archbishop Michael Ramsey CoE Secondary School

  • St Michael's and All Angels Academy (SMAA) from September 1 2007
  • Additional 20 new places each year for statutory age pupils
  • Double sixth form places from 125 to 300, once the new build completes
  • Co-locate with Highshore School


Highshore School

  • Co-locate with Archbishop Michael Ramsey to become an academy 
  • Reduce places from 120 to 90
  • To take effect from September 1 2010 or once the build completes.


Bredinghurst School

  • Increase from 50 to 70 places for both boys and girls
  • No boarding places. Key Stage 4 pupils educated on the existing Bredinghurst site
  • KS3 pupils on the site currently occupied by Highshore school
  • To take effect from September 1 2011 or once the build completes


Sacred Heart RC Secondary School

  • Special resourced unit for 25 pupils with special education needs 10 with ASD and 15 general needs
  • To take effect from September 1 2011 or once the build completes


St Thomas the Apostle College

  • Special resourced unit for 25 pupils with special education needs 10 with ASD and 15 general needs
  • To take effect from September 1 2011 or once the build completes


Tuke School

  • Increase from 60 to 90 places on new site at Daniel Gardens, SE15
  • To take effect from September 1 2010 or once the build completes


The Charter School

  • Special resourced unit for 25 pupils with special education needs, 10 with SLCN and 15 general needs
  • To take effect from September 1 2011 or once the build completes.


Walworth School

  • Walworth Academy from September 1 2007
  • From 2007, 60 fewer pupils starting each year
  • 240 place sixth form for students aged 16 to 18, once the build completes
