Education TransformationSouthwark's challenge to our schools and learners
We believe that 'education only flourishes if it successfully adapts to the demands and needs of the time'. We also know that the early 21st century is a time of rapid social, economic and environmental change. In this context, we have developed a change agenda to transform teaching and learning in Southwark.
Southwark schools for the future will transform schools by building new learning spaces with state of the art Information Technology. But this alone will not change a system that focuses on people and their needs, aspirations and relationships.
To bring about a true transformation, we will promote cultural and attitudinal change in our school community, with
- Effective change management to bring people on board
- Professional support and challenge
- Partnership and collaboration
- Flexible problem solving
We will focus on three areas
- Learning, teaching and the curriculum
- Educational leadership and school organisation
- Contribution to the aims of 'Every Child Matters' through the way we manage inclusion and involvement
We have a team dedicated to transformation. They will work with our local education partnership (LEP) to transform not only school buildings but also what happens in our schools.
We call this the Southwark transformation challenge. This is detailed in the paper The Transformation Challenge, from Good to Great (472kb).
