Consultation on New Aylesbury SchoolWe want to hear your views about the type of secondary school we should build in Walworth.
More places for Southwark students
Student numbers are increasing and many students already go to school out of the borough. Even with planned investment, we would not have enough places for Southwark secondary students to go to a local school.
To meet demand, we want to build at least two new secondary schools: one in Rotherhithe and one in Walworth. This will help supply enough places for all Southwark young people.
A new school on the Walworth lower site
We want to build an 11 – 16 school for 750 students with a sixth form for 150 on the current Walworth lower site, once the new Walworth Academy building in complete and all their students move on to the upper site near Burgess Park. The existing lower school buildings will be replaced with modern secondary school facilities.
Our aim is for this school to be an academy that is co-sponsored by Southwark Council and local school St Saviour’s and St Olaves’s has expressed interest in supporting it. The project should start in late 2009, with the new school opening in 2013.
