School Records

There are a number of ways we can help you if you need to see records held about pupils or the education system in Southwark.

Information asset register

Our 'information asset register' contains details of ownership, description and location of records we  hold such as minutes of important meetings or list of pupils' files. The register helps us to find records when they are requested, whether these records are held on paper or in electronic or other formats.

Data Protection Act 1998

We hold information on pupils in order to run the education system, and in doing so have to follow the Data Protection Act 1998. This means, among other things, the data held about pupils must only be used for specific purposes allowed by law. For details of the Act go to the The following link opens in a new windowInformation Commissioner's website.

Asking us for information we may hold about you

You can ask us if we hold any information about you or your children. If you make a request, which must be in writing, we will acknowledge your request within three working days and we will provide you with a copy of the personal data, if we hold it, within 40 calendar days.

You will be asked to provide proof of your identification.

Asking us for your school records

For school records about your child, you should contact the school your child attends, as we do not hold these.

If you are unsuccessful in obtaining your records from the school, the London Metropolitan Archive may prove useful. You can The following link opens in a new windowsearch their records online.
