Consultation on Admission Arrangements and School Term and Holiday Dates Confirmed

Consultation for academic year 2009-10

Each year we are required to consult on the coordinated schemes for Southwark maintained schools and academies and the admission arrangements for Southwark community schools.

The confirmed arrangements below will affect any children transferring from nursery to primary school or from primary school to secondary school in September 2009 or January 2010.

The consultation period ended on February 22 2007; the results of the consultation and the documents confirmed by the Southwark admission forum on March 10 2007 are below.

Consultation on dates for admission of pupils to reception year

Specific consultation took place regarding reception year admissions to community primary schools and whether the local authority should ensure all children are admitted to reception year based on their birth date range as recommended by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).

Children born between September 1 and February 28 will be admitted in September and those born between March 1 and August 31 to be admitted in January. Based on responses received and feedback given to the director of children’s services from heads’ executive, it has been agreed that all admissions to reception year will be managed by the local authority according to their birth dates.

The admissions criteria for community schools and the primary coordinated admissions scheme have been amended accordingly.

Admission arrangements of Southwark non-community schools and academies

Copies of the admission arrangements for all Southwark voluntary aided schools, foundation schools and academies are held on file at John Smith House. To view these arrangements contact the admissions team.
