Education Support

We provide support for children and young people who may experience difficulities during their schooling. 

Child protection

Those who work with children are required to report child protection issues to prevent vulnerable children from neglect and abuse.

Education for looked after children

Education for looked after children addresses the educational needs of children in local authority care and ensures disruption to schooling is minimised.

Educational psychology service

The educational psychology service works with parents and teaching staff to help resolve problems that can interfere with learning.

Home schooling

Most children are educated in school; however it is possible for parents to provide their children with home schooling.

Language and cultural support

Language and cultural support is offered in Southwark schools, to support children whose first language is not English.

Pupil support and benefits

Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for pupil support and benefits for school meals, uniform or transport.

Special education needs

Special educational needs (SEN) refers to children who have learning difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for them to learn or take part in education

Support for school age parents

Support for school age parents is available to help young parents continue with their education, including financial help and childcare assistance.

Support for gifted children

Support of gifted children, who learn at a faster pace, have access to an extended learning programme.

Traveller education

Southwark traveller education support service works with traveller parents and carers, to improve access and inclusion for their children in mainstream education.
