Adoption and Foster Care Anyone can apply to be an adopter or foster carer, so long as they have the qualities needed to look after children who cannot live with their parents.
Guide to adoption and fostering
Our guide to adoption and fostering is your first point of call for advice on how to adopt or become a foster carer.
Adoption information sessions
We run adoption information sessions, these are drop-in days for those interested in adoption who want to find out more about the process and the training involved.
Private foster carers
Private fostering is different from the fostering we arrange. If you care for someone else’s child you might be a private foster carer. By law you have to inform us of the arrangement. We have a duty to appoint a worker to meet with you and the child or young person to make sure they are safe and well and that you are a suitable person to care for them.
Adoption support and advice services
We run a support service for adopted adults, which can help by providing a place to share thoughts and feelings or find advice on tracing birth relatives. We also have an adoption support service for adoptive families who may need additional advice or financial support.
