Service Management
Excellent, well managed services are key to delivering change for children in Southwark.
Our ambitions
Southwark continues to show that working in partnership can really make a difference. Our ambition is to be one of the best performing local authorities. We have invested in our staff, our services, the community and our young people and service improvements are supported by a culture of strong performance, risk and quality frameworks.
Southwark has a network of effective multi-agency partnerships that work together to improve the outcomes for children, young people and families in the borough. As a result of high quality partnerships we have made good progress in reducing rates of teenage pregnancy, improved outcomes for youth offending and anti-social behaviour, worked jointly with schools to support improved attainment levels, and continued to improve the economic well-being of families.
Integrated working
The integration of health, education and social care into a single department with a single management team is proving very successful in delivering real benefits through better care pathways, coordinated work with schools, pooling of resources and joint work with adult services.
The community, voluntary, independent and private sectors are a considerable resource in Southwark providing support to children, young people, their parents and carers in a variety of settings ranging from early years childcare to intervention with vulnerable children.
Locality based working
We are looking to improve value for money by reshaping our approaches to delivery and commissioning of services. We have made good progress this year in taking forward locality based working, improving the way we commission and looking at new and improved ways of working, including workforce development and building the capacity of young people to participate in services and decision-making. More about locality working.
Priorities for Southwark
- Coordinated development of community networks, extended schools and children's centres
- Redesigned services for children with disabilities, continuing and complex care needs
- Introducing common tools and processes, for example with information sharing and assessment
- Children, young people and their families participate more actively in service design and delivery
- Raised levels of awareness of child protection across the system
