Make a Positive Contribution The Young Southwark partnership is responsible for ensuring children and young people in borough meet the five Every Child Matters outcomes. The information below sets out the agenda for 'make a positive contribution'.
What is meant by 'make a positive contribution'?
- Engage in decision-making and support the community and environment
- Engage in law abiding and positive behaviour in and out of school
- Develop positive relationships and choose not to bully and discriminate
- Develop self-confidence and successfully deal with significant life changes and challenges
- Develop enterprising behaviour
- Parents carers and families promote positive behaviour
Priorities for Southwark
- More for children and young people to do
Other areas for development are
- Improvements in youth provision including contact rates, accreditation, range and value for money with plans in hand to address through the youth offer
- Development and implementation of a borough-wide framework for involving young people in services and decision making
- Improvements in prevention and reduction of youth crime, including further development of cross borough links and meeting new local challenges such as gangs
- Sustaining improvements in transition of children with disabilities or learning difficulties, and improving range of local respite available
What have we achieved so far?
- A range of youth provision across universal and targeted services, including community based, large scale diversionary programmes, and support of personal development and training initiatives targeted at vulnerable groups
- Contributed to improving local 'not in education, employment or training' figures through a set of targeted provision
- Innovative practice and opportunities for young people to become involved in local issues and citizenship
- Excellent progress against reducing offending, early intervention, reducing anti-social behaviour and outcomes for vulnerable groups through programmes of support delivered in partnership with a range of agencies
- A strong culture of participating with our most vulnerable children, leading to some exciting new developments particularly for those with disabilities or learning difficulties
