Enjoy and Achieve

Boy and girl sat together smiling.The Young Southwark Partnership is responsible for ensuring children and young people in borough meet the five Every Child Matters outcomes. The below sets out the agenda for 'Enjoy and Achieve'.

What is meant by 'Enjoy and Achieve'?

  • Ready for school
  • Attend and enjoy school
  • Achieve stretching national educational standards at primary school
  • Achieve personal and social development and enjoy recreation
  • Achieve stretching national educational standards at secondary school
  • Parents, carers and families support learning

Priorities for Southwark

  • Improved literacy and numeracy

Other areas for development are

  • To improve number of early years providers achieving ‘outstanding’ in Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) inspections
  • To continue to improve affordability and sustainability of childcare places
  • To improve levels of attainment at each stage and especially for those with higher levels of prior attainment
  • To work to address the inconsistent performance and under attainment of certain groups such as those in poverty, from black and minority ethnic groups, and those with higher prior attainment
  • To decrease the number of schools at or below floor targets
  • To improve vulnerability of some schools to maintain performance and deliver continuous improvements
  • To continue to focus on improving range and accessibility of information on recreational activities

What have we achieved so far?

  • 250 more childcare places
  • More training and support for those working in early years education and childcare
  • Success in supporting and improving leadership of schools causing concern
  • Continued improvements in performance at KS3 and KS4
  • A broad range of recreational activities for young people across arts, culture, leisure and sports
  • Continuous improvements in educational outcomes for children looked after, with attainment of care leavers above the national average
  • Good user and parent involvement in developing provision for children with special educational needs or disabilities
