Sunshine House Sunshine House is the new Southwark children and young people's development centre on the corner of St Giles Road and Peckham Road in Camberwell.
Meeting the needs of children and young people
The new building improves services for children with special needs, disabilities and other vulnerabilities. The centre gives a range of services that are easily accessible to meet the needs of children and young people in Southwark. These services are in a child-centred and family-friendly environment.
Working together
Health and social care services are delivered in partnership with primary care, hospital services, child mental health services, social services, education and the voluntary sector. Our aim is to improve the services for children and young people and their families.
Building design
The entrance foyer, reception and play and family resource facilities form the public heart at the centre. A garden provides a place for children and young people and their families to relax. The building maximises the use of the site while remaining sensitive to its location next to a listed building. A key element of the external design is the use of colour on all windows and metal work.
Art project
Guy's and St. Thomas' Charity have funded an art project to enhance the new centre, which involved working with local people, the architects and artists. The aim of incorporating art is to ensure a pleasant environment for children and their families and staff as well as contributing to a therapeutic environment and reducing stress and anxiety.
