Southwark Silver Active Motivators
Independence and well being for life is key to Southwark's five year plan to improve the quality of life for older people.
The plan aims to encourage older people to take a positive approach to ageing and to actively enjoying life, which means helping them remain socially and physically active for as long as possible.
The Silver Active Motivator project was identified as an action in the plan, in recognition of the significant benefits that regular exercise can have in maintaining older people's health.
Would you like to help to get older people in Southwark more active?
In Southwark, the Active Peoples survey found that only one in 20 people aged over 55 were achieving the recommended levels of activity.
At present we are recruiting older people who are interested in being motivators, or in having a motivator. People can volunteer as little or as much time as they would like to the programme and those wishing to become a motivator will receive free training. You can join the Silver Active Motivators team and help inspire others. The motivators operate in community groups around the borough.
So if you are an active older person who enjoys talking to other people and would like to receive free training to join the motivator team, we would like to hear from you.
The plan is being delivered by the Southwark Alliance in partnership with older people themselves and the agencies that provide the services.
