MEND - Obesity Prevention Programme

MENDchildrenMEND (mind, exercise, nutrition, do it) is one of the UK's most innovative and effective obesity prevention and treatment programmes.

By the end of 2008 MEND will be running at over 300 locations across the UK. There are currently four MEND programmes running in Southwark.

MEND: fitter, healthier, happier

Obesity is a growing health problem that urgently needs to be tackled. If current trends in the UK continue then by 2020 at least 20% of all boys and 33% of all girls will be obese. Evidence shows that dieting does not effectively combat obesity and putting young children on diets can actually be very dangerous.

MEND stands for mind, exercise, nutrition and do it! MEND's unique, holistic programme has been specifically designed by leading experts.

Mind

Understanding and changing unhealthy attitudes and behaviours around food.

Exercise

Adequate, safe and, above all, fun exercise.

Nutrition

Enjoyable and practical activities that teach children about healthy eating and daily meal planning to improve the whole family's diet.

Do it!

Kids love taking part in MEND. "I never used to like wearing jeans before. Now I wear them all the time and I even had to put an extra hole in my belt", said Tyler aged 10.

MEND's mission is to educate, motivate and transform kids and families to change their unhealthy habits to ones that support a healthier lifestyle and to ensure sustained health for the whole family.
