Southwark Community Games

The Southwark Community Games is a year round programme of sports coaching and competition for young people aged seven to 16 years old.
There is also sport related vocational training for teachers and young people aged 16 years and older. It takes place across the eight community council areas in schools, after school clubs, estate and community settings.
A new structure has been put in place to improve the quality and capacity of the programme. This has included the appointment of ten new full time community sports coaches who work in dedicated parts of the borough, based on the community council areas. The delivery of coaching includes school based work, the after school programme and coaching on community venues or housing estates.
Our goals
The key objectives of the programme are to
- Increase participation in sport and physical activity by young people in the borough aged eight to 16 years old
- Improve their health, well being, educational achievement and quality of life
- Reduce antisocial behaviour through engaging young people in organised sport on a continuous basis, thereby encouraging and supporting them to develop a positive attitude and lifestyle
- Contribute to community cohesion building by providing young people with the greatest need, with sports related vocational training
