South Dock Marina Consultation - Berthing Terms and ConditionsBackground
Southwark Council own and operate South Dock Marina which also includes Greenland Dock.
This is one of the biggest marinas on the Thames and is a great asset to the area. If you’re a regular visitor you will no doubt have seen the operation of the crane and owners working on their boats in the dry dock area.
Consultation
With all working marinas there is always a certain amount of activity which can generate noise. We have revised the terms and conditions to ensure an equal balance is achieved and are now consulting residents and berth holder’s views on these changes.
We welcome your opinion. This may include the way we operate the marina and how we and you would expect visitors and their guests to behave and conduct themselves. Things which may affect you in relation to the marina could be noise, the operation of the bridge and health and safety in general.
Consultation update
Due to a request for additional time from the sub-committee and South Dock Marinas Berth Holders Association an extension has been granted for a further 14 days for consultation. The new dead line for all comments to be received is Friday 5th September 2008.
The Consultation process first started in September 2007. There has been various issues which have been raised and addressed.
Brief summary of the main issue raised by berthholders and residents
- Noise
- Transfer of mooring licence
- Environmental issues
- Transfer fee
- Live aboard status
- Waiting list
- Roles and responsibility of the council
- Roles and responsibilities of the berthholder
- Repairs to Boats within the Marina
Developments
Whilst carrying out the consultation process we were asked to clarify the Council's post ion in relation to Berth Holders Living on board their Boats. After investigation we can confirm that planning permission from 1988, permits a Marina of 200 boats. That permission was amended in 1996 to allow 65% of the boats (130) to be residential.
All berthholders who wish to be considered for live aboard status are to forward their written applications to the lock office no later than the 18th August 2008.
All berthholders will be sent a "consideration for live aboard status" form via post. You can also collect a form from the Lock office.
