The Olympics Comes to SouthwarkSouthwark Community Games 2006 - awards ceremony
The 2006 Southwark Community Games awards ceremony, which took place on Thursday November 9 2006, was blessed with a plethora of Olympic and Commonwealth athletes from both the past and the present.
The ceremony held to celebrate the success of the borough-wide games over the course of this year.
Over 250 children from Southwark aged eight to 16 who have taken part in the year round coaching sessions run by Southwark Community Games coaches were in high spirits as they enjoyed street dancing by local dance troop XP.

Britain's number one triple jumper, Phillips Idowu, who competed at the Olympic Games in both 2000 and 2004 and who won a gold medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, presented individual awards to the children of Southwark.
There were eight young people who represented each of the Community Council's in Southwark that received a trophy and £50 worth of sports vouchers for attending the most coaching sessions, putting in the most effort in competitions and helping with setting up and clearing away at coaching sessions.
Phillips was joined on stage by Southwark Community Games very own Commonwealth athlete Samson Oni and also Dame Mary Glen Haig. Dame Mary won gold medals in fencing at both the 1950 and 1954 Commonwealth Games and she is also a member of the International Olympic Committee. She awarded the grand prize of the overall winning Community Council to Bermondsey, with Camberwell claiming the runners up spot and Dulwich finishing in third place.
Triple jumper Phillips Idowu advised: "Find something you're good at, enjoy what you're doing and you'll progress. Even if you don't become a sports super star you'll get fit and healthy in the process which is really important."
