Safeguarding Adults Training

safeguarding adults partnership board logo

Safeguarding adults training courses aim to prevent vulnerable adult abuse. They should be attended by anyone who is in contact with, or who works with, vulnerable adults in Southwark, including

  • Social service employees
  • Carers
  • Care workers and day centre staff, both paid and voluntary
  • Hospital employees

If you are employed, or if you are a volunteer, in one of the groups listed above, you need to be aware of your responsibilities. You should know how to respond to cases of vulnerable adult abuse, and should take at least the first safeguarding adults training course described below.

Alerters training

Staff with regular vulnerable adult contact should undertake alerters training. This course covers a number of important topics

New members of staff

All new staff should undertake alerters training within the first three months of employment, and alerters training should be refreshed every three years. Alerters training can be accessed online. Contact the safeguarding adults team for online access details.

Alternatively, there are classroom based alerters courses. Please email Yvette Evans or Beverley Croasdale for enrolment details.

Investigator training

Investigator training is a two day classroom based course.

  • It should be mandatory for all social workers, senior practitioners, team managers and service managers.
  • It describes the detailed process of making and investigating referrals of vulnerable adult abuse

Investigators training should be undertaken within three months of the worker taking up post and 'refresher training' should be undertaken every three years.

Email Yvette Evans or Beverley Croasdale for enrolment details
