Safeguarding Adults

Elderly woman with concerned expression.Everyone has the right to live without being abused, and the safeguarding adults team helps prevent vulnerable adult abuse.

Vulnerable adults are people who need assistance from health or social care services and are over 18 years of age. 

Abuse is a violation of human and civil rights, and there are seven main forms of vulnerable adult abuse

  • Physical abuse 
  • Sexual abuse 
  • Psychological abuse 
  • Financial abuse 
  • Neglect 
  • Discriminatory abuse 
  • Institutional abuse

When and how to take action against abuse

If you think someone is being abused or someone is abusing you, contact the duty social work team or Southwark Police on the telephone numbers listed below. If you are reporting abuse it is helpful if you can provide your name to enable further contact, but you can also report suspected abuse and not disclose your identity should you wish.
