Community Mental Health Services

We give help to adults with mental health problems, such as depression, phobias and other serious conditions. The service is provided by professionally qualified mental health social workers who are based in a variety of locations throughout Southwark.

Our teams are made up of social workers, community psychiatric nurses, occupational therapists, psychiatrists and psychologists. This improves communication between service users, staff and carers and means that people can get the services they need from one place.

How we can help

We assess each person's mental health problems and, when necessary, we will give ongoing community mental health care, in partnership with the individuals, their carers and their GP. For most people, we provide help in the person's home, although they may sometimes have to attend one of our offices.

Working with other agencies

We work closely with other support agencies, such as the in-patient wards, day centres, the housing department and support agencies from the private and voluntary sectors.

The mental health strategy and partnership board

The joint mental health strategy for the borough has links to all departments in the council. The strategy is led by the Southwark Mental Health Partnership Board, with representatives from a range of local stakeholders including Southwark Primary Care Trust, the voluntary sector, and users and carers.

The mental health partnership board

The partnership board is advised by our users council, which meets monthly, and a growing carers project which is managed in partnership by Southwark Carers and Rethink.
