How Can Carers Get Help? If you want help, you can ask us to carry out a needs assessment for you and the person you are caring for.
You can also ask to have your own separate carers assessment. This is when you can discuss what help you need during the assessment of the person you care for.
You can always ask for a private interview with the social worker, to talk about your own needs or the needs of the person you care for.
Support for you - a break from caring
We can provide a number of services to both carers and the person they care for. Eligibility for such services is determined via a needs assessment and/or carers assessment.
We can sometimes make arrangements to give carers a break (respite) from caring.
Two types of respite care
Residential respite care
When the person you care for has a short stay in a residential or nursing home, on a one-off occasion or at more regular intervals. This can be helpful when you want to go on holiday or need to go into hospital, for example.
Community respite care
When a care worker comes to your home to look after the person you care for while you have a rest or have some free time to do whatever you need to. This can be provided during the night and at weekends as well.
