Building London Creating Futures
Building London Creating Futures (BLCF) is in partnership with a variety of private, public and volunatry organisations committed to identifying construction recruitment needs.
Our aim is to find long term employment for local people in London. We offer specialised recruitment and retention of skilled staff, particularly placing long term unemployed people back into the construction industry.
How do we recruit?
We developed an innovative workplace coordinator model to create a cross London network of skilled people who can be transferred from site to site. The model helps sustain employment and identifies shortages of skills in the construction sector through
- links to the supply chain, which enables vacancies to be identified and created
- access to all organisations and processes onsite
- personal support for applicants
- ongoing employment support to ensure career advancement and reduced drop out rates
- flexible training and support including dates and locations to fit in with the applicants needs
- easy model application on major development sites
- influencing recruitment, training and employment practices for under represented groups within the construction industry.
Who can apply?
The project is open to anyone seeking employment in the construction industry, although we are recruiting key priority groups of people who are currently under-represented in the construction workforce including
- ethnic minorities
- lone parents
- maturer workers
- people with low or no skill set
- long term unemployed
- recent returnees
- women.
We aim to find employment for diverse people primarily targeting
- developers
- sub contractors
- training agencies.
