Silwood Estate Redevelopment The Silwood Estate is situated in the Evelyn ward of Lewisham and in the Rotherhithe and Livesey wards of Southwark.
Previously led by Lewisham Council, the redevelopment of the Silwood Estate is now in the seventh year of the programme.
The current phase, Phase 4B, will see the demolition of existing homes and the construction of new homes through partnership with the developer and Registered Social Landlords (RSL's).
The vision for Silwood is to achieve physical regeneration and also to ensure the surrounding area becomes a place where people aspire to live and work.
Design proposals
In 2006, Southwark Council sought proposals from developers and design teams to provide a new residential scheme for Phase 4B of the regeneration programme. The requirements were to provide
- A sustainable mixture of affordable and private properties of various sizes
- High quality of urban design
- Architecture in keeping with the aspirations for the wider local area
Higgins Homes in partnership with Genesis Housing Association were selected to develop the site and executive approval was obtained in early 2007. The developer will be submitting a planning application in 2008 with a view to commencing construction in 2009/2010.
