Background of Canada Water

Canada Water Tube and Bus Station Sign - Copyright Hannah Maule-FinchCouncil land holdings provided the much needed reason for transformation in this area and in early 2002 a community led selection process began to find a master developer to undertake the regeneration of the 40-acre site.

In July 2003 BL Canada Quays Ltd, led by The following link opens in a new windowBritish Land, was chosen as our preferred developer. In early 2005, the council signed a ten year development agreement with BL Canada Quays Ltd, allowing them to start the process of finalising a masterplan.

The initial proposal BL Canada Quays produced for the selection competition included a library, leisure facilities, a department store and new public space with the Canada Water dock at its heart. The plans promise around 2,000 new homes in mixed styles and around 100,000 square feet of new office, business start-up and live work space.

More information about the regeneration of Canada Water can be found on the The following link opens in a new windowCanada Water development website.
