What Do We Do?Introduction for service users
The Supporting People programme offers vulnerable people the opportunity to improve their quality of life by enabling greater independence.
Our services
Supporting people funds services that provide a range of housing related support.
We pay for many different types of support services, including
- Sheltered housing for older people
- Supported living schemes, where support is permanently linked to a property
- Hostels where residents usually stay there on a temporary basis
- Women’s refuges
- Lifelines, an alarm system that lets you call for help
- Home improvement agencies, organisations that arrange repairs or adaptations to help people to stay in their own home
- Out reach services, which support people to retain their own home in the community
We also help people to
- Manage their own finances and access benefits
- Access community and culturally specific services
- Contact other organisations, for example social services
Helping you to live independently
Housing related support helps you to do things for yourself. The support that Supporting People services provide will help you to become more independent within your own home and community.
Supporting people funded services do not include
- Medical or nursing treatment
- Physical care feeding, help with bathing and dressing
- Assistance with using the toilet
- Professional treatment or counselling
- Intensive behaviour management
Supporting people services can be provided in your own home whether you are a homeowner or a tenant in council, housing association or private housing. You will receive an assessment of your support needs and a support plan will be agreed with you. This plan will clearly show what the service includes and how it will be provided.
