Supporting PeopleIntroduction
Supporting people is a national programme set up by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG). The programme provides housing related support services to vulnerable people.
Our vision
The supporting people team in Southwark aims to improve the quality of life of vulnerable people through the provision and promotion of responsive, creative and cost effective housing related support services.
Our services will both respond to assessed needs, promote independence and ensure that housing support services play an integral part in the delivery of other local and national plans and objectives.
What is housing related support?
Housing related support helps vulnerable people to live independently in their own home. A housing related support service may be linked to a specific property such as sheltered housing for the elderly, or it may be a visiting service that will go to a person’s own home.
Wherever the service is based, housing related support services are designed to help people to live more independently. Housing related support includes helping people to
- Manage their money
- Get training or employment
- Develop domestic or social skills
- Address health issues
- Keep safe
However, the housing related services that we provide do not include services such as personal care, for instance cooking, washing, dressing, day care, or transport. These are arranged by social workers.
