In 2005 the council developed a housing strategy that outlines the council's overall plans for housing in the borough from 2005 to 2010. It covers private and public housing, as well as the housing services the council provides. In 2007/08 the council published a monitoring update of the housing strategy. The council is now fundamentally reviewing the strategy with the aim of publishing a new strategy in 2009.   The Government said that Local authorities need to review their homelessness strategies by July 2008. The Homelessness Strategy is incorporated in the Housing Strategy 2005 to 2010. The sections on homelessness were reviewed focusing on identified gaps, emerging issues or trends and any issues arising out of the equalities impact assessment of homelessness and temporary accommodation services.
