Major Works

Sometimes we may have to do so much work inside your home that you will have to move out for a while. These are works that are so extensive that they would substantially disrupt your living conditions. We will take account of a range of factors when making this decision.

Compensation

In some circumstances, if you are a secure tenant, we will pay you compensation. This may include the reasonable costs of moving for example removals, a disturbance allowance for disconnections and reconnections and a home loss payment if you have to move permanently. Your estate property management team will be able to explain the procedure for claiming these costs.

If we ask you to stay in your home while we carry out such work then you can claim compensation for each day from when the work starts until it is completed. If you, or a relative, have to take time off work to give us access then you can claim an amount equal to any wages or holiday pay you have lost. We will also pay the cost of electricity used by our contractors.

If you are asked to move out

The estate property management team will consult you about how long the work may take to complete. If you need to move out for longer than seven days while the work is being carried out then you may choose to transfer to another home either temporarily or permanently.  If you choose a permanent move then there may be some delay while we find suitable accommodation.

If you agree to move temporarily while the work is carried out then you can claim a disturbance allowance and the costs of removals for your move to and from your temporary home.

Permanent transfers

Sometimes the amount of work required may be so extensive that it alters the physical character of your home so that it is no longer appropriate to your needs. In this case you will need to move permanently.

If you choose to move permanently to allow the works to proceed then you can claim a disturbance allowance, including removal costs, as well as a home loss payment.
