Equality & Diversity
We believe that the diversity of our local population is one of our greatest strengths. Tenants in Southwark reflect the diversity of the community as a whole. People speak many different languages, have different backgrounds and have different needs. We try to recognise different needs and provide services that meet them.
We will promote services, policies and procedures to make sure we provide equal opportunities and respect for the needs of everyone in our community. We have developed these policies in line with all relevant law and aim to promote social inclusion.
We are committed to making sure that no housing applicant, job applicant, tenant, contractor, tenant representative or employee receives less favourable treatment than another because of their religious or political beliefs, colour, ethnic or national origin, sex, sexuality, disability, race, marital status or age.
We will act quickly and firmly against any form of discrimination. The government recognises that having information about the people who we provide a service to is vital if we are to monitor the effectiveness of those services. We are working to create a database, which contains information on sex, ethnic origin, disability, and language needs. The information we collect will help us to deliver better services that are more tailored to our tenants’ needs.
