Council tax by direct debit

There are a number of ways in which you can pay your council tax, however the easiest and cheapest way is by direct debit. It is the only method which allows you a choice of payment dates. (1, 8, 15, 20 or 25 of the month) otherwise your payments must be made on or before the first of each month.

If you pay by a method other than direct debit and do not pay on or before the first of the month you will be sent up to two reminders and would lose your right to pay by instalments.

If you would like to pay by direct debit you can download a direct debit form (pdf 265kb), which should be printed, completed and then sent to us by post or handed in at our office. This form should be completed and returned to

Keep this guarantee after returning you direct debit form.

• This guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that take part in the direct debit scheme. The efficiency and security of the scheme is monitored and protected by your own bank or building society
• If the amounts to be paid or the payment dates change, Southwark Council will notify you ten working days in advance of your account being debited
• If an error is made by Southwark Council or your bank or building society, you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your branch of the amount paid
• You can cancel a direct debit at any time by writing to your bank or building society. Please also send a copy of your letter to us
