Making Southwark Safer We're doing lots of things in Southwark to make the borough a safer place. Our corporate plan outlines our priorities for 2005/2006.
Our objectives
- Reduce crime and the fear of crime
- Prevent and reduce youth crime
- Challenge and reduce racial, domestic and homophobic crime
- Tackle serious and violent crime
- Reduce drug related crime and substance misuse
Key achievements
- We've created nine community wardens schemes, the most successful and well resourced programme in the country
- Established a multi agency anti social behaviour team called Southwark anti social behaviour unit (SASBU). The team secured the largest number of anti-social behaviours orders (eight) issued at one time in the UK.
- Introduced street action teams across the borough to improve the environment and help reduce anti social behaviour
- CCTV Southwark currently has 124 cameras
- Awarded Beacon status for 2004/05, acknowledging our work tackling crime in Southwark
