Southwark Civic AwardsDo you know a Southwark person or organisation who you think deserves recognition for their outstanding contribution to the local community? If so, you have until December 31 2008 to nominate them for a Civic Award.
Who Can Be Nominated
Any individual or organisation that has given up their time to offer help to the community can be nominated. For example, they may have helped to foster community spirit in their neighbourhood, or maybe they deserve recognition for their strength or bravery. Awards are bestowed in various catergories and in previous years awards have included.
- Young person of the year
- Business person of the year
- Youth sports person of the year
- Awards for enhancing racial harmony
Local awards called 'Honorary Liberties' will also be made which cover the old districts of the borough that of Camberwell, Southwark and Bermondsey.
Awards Ceremony
The winners will be invited to attend a special ceremony usually held in May where they will be presented with their awards by the current Mayor as well as past Mayor's of Southwark.

Nomination forms are available from local libraries, schools, community groups and the Town hall in Peckham Road. You can also print the form (pdf 2Mb) to complete here.
Deadline
The closing date for nominations is December 31 2008 so don't hesitate - nominate now and give your local heroes the recognition they deserve!
