Annual Report 2006/07
The council's Annual Report 2006/07 sets out our achievements over the past year and the challenges for the future, alongside information on how we spent your money.
Last year we spent over £1.2 billion providing services and running the council. Performance has improved in key areas in the past year, which is reflected in rising levels of resident satisfaction, which are above the national average.
Key improvements include
- Increases in educational attainment for children and young people
- Increased recycling rates
- Decreased levels of crime, especially violent crime and robbery
- Improved quality of housing services through the 100 days of change campaign
A number of services have won prestigious national awards, including the customer service centre, the bus accessibility programme and several building designs.
We are in the midst of one of the biggest regeneration programmes in the UK to realise our ambition for Southwark, including a £911 million programme of capital investment. This and other work will continue to deliver improved services for residents, workers and visitors to the borough.
